Destination length keeps us from turning back

Sharing is caring!

Did you know that God will take us the long way to a destination to keep us from turning back?

While working on some goals, I wonder why it has to take so long. A genie to grant my wishes as I ask seems wonderful. Yet life doesn’t work that way.

We have to work through trials and mistakes. Sometimes we scrap it all and start over. Other times we plod ahead though the end isn’t even in sight.

To reach destination requires trust

Destination

While I was reading Exodus 13:17-18, I saw that “God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they will change their minds and return to Egypt.’”

It comes down to trust. Do we trust that God will work it out for His glory and our good? Do we trust that we will reach the destination? Will we continue if the obstacles are large and frequent? Might doubts and fears stall us, make us want to quit?

No template exists. Each person’s life is different. The goals might be similar, but getting there will never be the same. Why? Because God’s plan for you is different than His plan for me. Your work contains individual assignments designed for you with specific lessons meant for you.

Wild, huh?

So, join me and try not to grumble along the way. (I keep failing on the grumbling part. God, forgive me.) Instead, let’s ask God to bring to our attention the beauty He wants us to see, hear, taste, smell, and feel.  Let’s thank Him for where we are, where we’ve been, and where He’s taking us. Together, let’s encourage each other to stay focused on Jesus and His work that He gave us for this moment.

Turning back won’t make you happy

Step by step, we’ll move forward. Maybe we won’t even notice our trajectory until we pause to look at the changes. I think it was C.S. Lewis who said, “Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.”

God knows what might cause us to return to our Egypt. We won’t be happy if we go back.

Sometimes we think what was in the past was better, but when we were living through it, we didn’t think so. We forget. It’s better to move forward.

The easy path isn’t the one we appreciate the most in the end. With the easy route, we might take credit, but when it is the difficult way, we give credit to God.

What is a long destination you’ve been on?
